Saalika Khan is an actor from the far land of the east… Maryland.
Saalika Khan (she/they) is a Muslim, Pakistani born, American raised actor, located in Los Angeles with bicoastal roots. In Maryland, she co-founded the improv group “Soylent Green” and performed in DC Fringe shows. At Towson University, Saalika was accepted into the honors society, Lambda Kappa Tau, a self made film-media production society. Moving to Los Angeles, she starred in the short film “Naan & Balsamic Vinaigrette” (official selection of Austin Film Festival, Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, and Nantucket Film Festival).
She continued her training with Rain Valdez, whose ActNow classes focus on the queer community. Saalika performed in the Studio for Performing Arts Monologue & Song Slam in 2023, and she was selected for the MENASA Diversity Showcase in 2022 and 2023. She has been featured locally in Conundrum Theatre Company’s production of the musical “Fun Home” as Joan, and most recently as the lead role of Bihar in “Bismillah,” at the SheLA Arts Festival.
In addition to working on her creative talents in photography, directing, and singing & playing music, she founded the Desi American Creatives Coalition, where creatives of South Asian descent can reach out to each other for support and collaboration while building up their artistic careers.
Saalika founded her own studio, Scissor Tail Studios, as Principle Creative Director and Photographer. She has directed and produced music videos for musicians such as Josephine Olivia and Saviors and is now developing a short screenplay focusing on their queer identity discovery and positive coming out experience.
During the pandemic, Saalika created the group Rehlat al Hadeeth (Speaking Journeys), a group made for Queer Muslims to come together to recite original poetry and monologues, build community, and help each other grow in their creative writing skills.
Saalika’s mission is to create and seek out projects that change the narrative of Muslims, South Asians, and Queer BIPGM (Black, Indigenous, and People of the Global Majority) in Hollywood. She believes that telling stories from such perspectives will have an impact on the industry by showing more accurate and positive portrayals.
Saalika is based out of Los Angeles, California, with her cat, Peach.
